Surprisingly for an Olympic sport, tennis makes its Commonwealth debut in Delhi.

New Zealand will be represented by Marina Erakovic, who ranked as high as 49 on the WTA Rankings in 2008 before an injury-enforced break.

The 22-year-old is currently placed at 359 in world singles rankings and 95 in doubles. She was selected for the Beijing Olympics in 2008, but lost in the first round of the singles competition to Ayumi Morita from Japan.

Erakovic will play only singles matches in Delhi and mixed doubles with Rubin Statham.

Davis Cup squad member and 2010 ATP Heineken Open doubles winner, Marcus Daniell, 20, will also journey to Delhi in October. He is teamed Statham, 23, who has won 15 of the 18 matches he has played while representing New Zealand at the Davis Cup.

All tennis events - singles (men and women), doubles (men and women) and mixed doubles - will be held at the R. K. Khanna Tennis Complex from 4-10 October.
