Last week, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced that Cabinet would consider the move to alert level one tomorrow, earlier than previously indicated.

She said it was the government's "strong desire" to get to level one as soon as it was safe and possible.

The total number of confirmed cases remains at 1154, with another 350 probable cases since the virus was first reported in New Zealand on 28 February.

There was no media conference today. The Health Ministry said in a statement there have been no further deaths.

The ministry said the NZ Covid Tracer app had now had 517,000 registrations, an increase of 5,300 since yesterday.

Laboratories completed 2,054 tests yesterday, bringing the total of tests completed to 294,048.

Eight significant clusters have closed.
