The council gets 60 percent of its revenue from concerts, leisure centres, Ports of Auckland, dividends from Auckland Airport shares, parking and public transport fares.

A new analysis shows income from those sources has dried up during the pandemic and the council expects to lose $550m in the next financial year as a result.

Auckland Council is considering postponing or deferring rate payments to help people struggling because of the pandemic.

Mayor Phil Goff said that would mean the council losing a further $65m.
