The child is in Auckland's Starship Hospital and is said to be in a serious but stable condition.

Nineteen patients are still being treated in Christchurch Hospital for injuries sustained in the mosque terror attacks, down from 23 yesterday.

Canterbury District Health Board spokesperson said three of the 19 were still critically ill in intensive care.

Last week, speaking to the media, vascular surgeon Adib Khanafer said he tended to the four-year-old girl.

He was doing an elective case when he was called to attend to patients pouring into Christchurch Hospital's emergency department on 15 March.

"It was really sad to see a young girl on the table with vascular injuries," he said with tears in his eyes.

He said the child with gunshot wounds became unstable that night and was then transferred to Starship Hospital.

"She's critical, but I think she's going to come out of it," he had said.
