The Insurance Council is urging people to put pressure on the Government to release information on the state of land around Christchurch.
Some residents contesting the Government's zoning of their properties say they've been told they won't get such information until all assessments are completed.
Others say they have now been told their homes can be rebuilt after an earlier assessment showed the land could not be built on.
Insurance Council chief executive Chris Ryan says parts of Christchurch are ready for new subdivisions, but geotechnical information is not yet available from the Government for insurance companies to provide cover.
Mr Ryan says each new earthquake makes the data available on the land under each house obsolete, and a new assessment is required.
