NZX untroubled by US political turmoil

The New Zealand stock exchange has continued its rise following other markets up despite the chaos in Washington DC.

The NZX opened up just under half a percent. It follows a jump of around one percent yesterday.

Wall Street closed this morning in record highs.

Stocks surged as Joe Biden was certified president and on the expectation of a stimulus package from the Democrat-controlled Congress.

The Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq all set new highs despite the chaos of calls for President Donald Trump's removal.

Wall Street is betting on more coronavirus relief to help the economy ride out a steep pandemic-led downturn.
