The search for a toddler swept away in the Poerua River on the West Coast last week resumed this morning.

The Police National Dive Squad and victim recovery dogs have been taken down the river by jetboat today, as they search for the missing toddler.

Police area commander Mel Aitken said the river has dropped and conditions were favourable for searching.

Emily was one of five people in a four-wheel drive vehicle that became partly submerged while trying to cross the rain-swollen river near Harihari a week ago.

Three escaped, but she and 66-year-old Barry Petrie were swept away. Mr Petrie's body was found last Friday.
