A driver has escaped with minor injuries after his car was hit by a train and left a mangled wreck.
Emergency services were called to Matua Road in Kumeu, northwest of Auckland, about 11am.
Fire Service crews arrived with rescue gear but although the car was destroyed the driver had not been trapped.
Police said the man was then taken to North Shore Hospital.
