Budget funding for Pacific employment service in Auckland

9:07 am on 20 May 2016

An employment service that helps young Pacific Islanders in Auckland find work will receive an extra $4.6 million in funding in this year's Budget.

Pacific People's Minister Sam Lotu-Iiga said the money would be allocated to Pacific Employment Support Services over four years.

Mr Lotu-Iiga said 17 percent of Pacific youth in Auckland - 6900 people - were not in employment, education or training.

He said the organisation worked intensively with Pacific youth and helped build their CVs - and their confidence.

The service develops tailored programmes which includes literacy and numeracy training, communication and interview skills, as well as career counselling and planning.
