Unseasonable bout of warm weather for Wellington

Wellington is having an unseasonable bout of warm weather this month.

Niwa says the city has been nearly two degrees hotter on average than normal for April, with the temperature peaking at 23-point-7 degrees.

Niwa principal scientist Chris Brandolino said Wellington had only had what it calls five "wet days" this month - that's when at least a millimetre of rain falls - and 20 overall this year.

Federated Farmers said the dry weather was taking its toll on dairy farmers' feed stocks, particularly in parts of Wairarapa, Marlborough and Canterbury.
