NASA delays Wanaka balloon launch again

11:10 am on 27 April 2016

This morning's planned NASA balloon launch from Wanaka airport has again been postponed because of high wind speeds.

The $5 million project may go ahead tomorrow if the upper atmosphere wind speeds drop.

The launch has been delayed several times since it was first scheduled for 9April.

The balloon is designed to research the origins of the galaxy from an altitude of 100,000 feet, at a much lower cost than a rocket-launched satellite.
