The Christchurch City Council is clamping down on litter bugs.
A council committee today recommended raising the maximum fine for those caught dropping rubbish from $100 to $400.
Only businesses or those dropping large amounts of rubbish would attract the top fine. However, repeat offenders would automatically be fined the maximum amount.
The full council will now vote on the recommendation.
