Nelson poised to set record

12:17 pm on 12 April 2016

More than 250 people will need to spin poi for two minutes if a world record is to be set in Nelson.

The official attempt takes place at Victory Square park at 5pm tomorrow.

Project leader Gayle Petch said organisers were confident of succeeding, judging by the numbers registered so far, and more were expected on the day.

Ms Petch said studens from Nelson schools, members of the community, businesses and the police will be taking part in the event to raise funds for the Victory Community Centre, which is facing a financial crisis.

There is currently no Guiness World Record entry for poi spinning.
