Scrub fire in Marlborough burns 25 hectares

10:13 pm on 11 March 2016

Half a dozen helicopters were called to a scrub fire on Marlborough's dry east coast earlier this evening and 50 firefighters are expected to be required tomorrow to bring the fire under control.

The fire, on Vernon Station just south of Blenheim, is thought to have burned through about 25 hectares but is not threatening houses or farm buildings.

One power line has been brought down in the fire and some rural properties on the east coast north of Seddon may be without electricity. Marlborough Lines is working to restore the power supply.
