A rise in domestic and international enrolments has helped boost student numbers at Canterbury University this year.

The number of new students is up 13 percent on the same time last year, bringing new enrolments to 3242 full-time equivalent students - nearly 400 more than last year.

Vice-Chancellor Rod Carr said it was still three weeks before the final day students could withdraw from courses but overall enrolment figures were up more than 2 percent for domestic students and about 39 percent for international fee-paying students.

Dr Carr said a post-quake trend of local students leaving town to attend university elsewhere seemed to have diminished.
