The death toll has risen to two in a crash involving a car and a truck on State Highway One in Canterbury early this afternoon.
Police said the male and female occupants of the car died at the scene, on the Hundalee Road about five kilometres north of the Conway River.
The truck driver was not injured.
Officers are trying to locate family members of those who died.
Emergency services are still at the scene and the road is expected to be closed until at least 6.30pm.
