The Education Council has struck off a Northland secondary school teacher who has been jailed for indecently assaulting students.

Antonio Morales was sentenced in the Whangarei District Court to two years and nine months' prison for indecent assault and obtaining objectionable material.

Education Council manager teacher practice Andrew Greig said the council immediately ensured Morales did not teach while he was under investigation.

The name of the school and the victims has been suppressed.
