A motorcyclist who crashed on a Wellington motorway, killing himself and a teenage girl, was drunk and heavily medicated a coroner's report reveals.

Dee McMahon was riding his Harley-Davidson, with 18-year-old Natalia Austin on the back, when it hit the median barrier near the Terrace Tunnel last June.

Both died at the scene.

Coroner Christopher Devonport said Mr McMahon had been travelling at speeds of up to 140kmh before the crash and was close to five times over the legal blood alcohol limit.

He was also affected by strong drugs including morphine, tramadol and anti-depressants.
