The Whanganui District Council has spent $860,000 in its legal battle with the company that designed its failed wastewater treatment plant.

The council is suing MWH Global for $70 million.

This covers the cost of building the $15m plant, which was closed in 2013, and $38m for a new plant due to be built in 2018.

The parties met for two days of mediation in October last year but no resolution has yet been found.
