Israeli 'spy' vulture set free in Lebanon

1:51 pm on 30 January 2016

A vulture that was being detained in Lebanon on suspicion it was spying for Israel has been set free.

Villagers in southern Lebanon noticed the huge bird had been tagged by Tel Aviv University and was carrying a tracking device.

United Nations peacekeepers stationed on the Lebanon-Israel frontier intervened and conducted delicate negotiations.

Lebanese media said the villagers freed the vulture after it became clear it was not on a spying mission.
