Dick Smith workers in Australia to lose jobs

10:50 am on 23 January 2016

More than 180 Dick Smith workers in Australia are to lose their jobs.

The electronics retail chain went into receivership earlier this month, owing about $400 million to creditors.

Its receivers Ferrier Hodgson said the 27 Dick Smith concessions at David Jones department stores throughout Australia must close, so they can restructure the business and try to sell it.

The outlets will close next Wednesday.

The closures won't affect the company's New Zealand stores.

Dick Smith employs more than 3000 people in Australia and New Zealand.
