Firefighters in Marlborough have extinguished two fires fuelled by strong winds this morning.
Spokesperson Andrew Norris said firefighters were first called to a bush fire threatening houses in Anakiwa at about 10am.
He said helicopters were called from Picton and Havelock and the fire was now out, but firefighters were still on standby.
At about 10:30am, a truck caught fire on State Highway 1 between Kaikoura and Blenheim, and spread to nearby vegetation.
Mr Norris said the area near Kekerengu was now being dampened down.
It was not yet known what caused the fires.
