The Cambridge section of the Waikato expressway was officially opened today, six months ahead of schedule.
The $250m section runs from Tamahere to just south of Cambridge.
The Transport Agency said the 16km road would shave five minutes off the trip from Hamilton to Cambridge and significantly improve safety.
It will open to traffic tomorrow afternoon, but a community event occurred this afternoon, giving the public a chance to walk and cycle on the new road.
