Two teenage girls were rescued by police from a Nelson beach in the early hours of the morning after the tide turned on their skinny dipping adventure.
At about 1am, the two teenagers and a young man went skinny dipping at low tide at Tahunanui beach.
The teenage girls were stranded on a sand bar when the tide turned, but the young man managed to swim back to the beach and called the police.
Search coordinator Senior Constable David Cogger said a police dog handler and a response team were sent out.
He said the police officers swam to the sand bar and rescued the young women who were taken to hospital to be checked.
