Police in Christchurch have seized more than 14 kilograms of a drug which could be used to create up to $7 million worth of methamphetamine.

Police and Customs officers swooped on a Yaldhurst property yesterday morning and seized 14.6 kilograms of ephedrine.

Officers said the ephedrine could yield about seven kilograms of methamphetamine.

The investigation was launched after Customs officers in Auckland discovered the drugs hidden inside a consignment from Malaysia.

A 21-year-old man was expected to appear in court this morning charged with importation and possession for supply of a class B drug.
