Volkswagen in Australia suspends some sales

7:02 pm on 3 October 2015

Volkswagen in Australia is suspending the sale of some diesel cars while it addresses the car-maker's emissions-cheating scandal.

After meeting Government officials, the company has decided to immediately halt the sale of vehicles with 1.6 or 2 litre diesel engines.

It's estimated there are more than 40,000 vehicles already on the road in Australia that have been fitted with the diesel engines at the centre of the emissions scandal.

Globally, 11 million Volkswagen diesel cars and over 2 million Audis have been identified as carrying software which manipulates the emissions controls in their engines.
