A milk tanker has crashed in the Waikato, partially closing a busy road between Auckland and Tauranga.
The crash happened at about 9:30am on Firth St, Matatama, which is part of State Highway 27.
Senior Sergeant Mike Underwood said that, according to initial reports, a milk tanker and trailer crashed through a fence of a property and rolled. The driver of the tanker was taken to Waikato Hospital.
Clearing up the scene would require heavy salvage equipment and was expected to take some time.
Northbound traffic is being allowed to continue along SH27. Southbound traffic is being diverted from Broadway through Burwood Rd.
Police are warning motorists to expect delays.
Mr Underwood said Firth St was used by heavy transport vehicles travelling between the Bay of Plenty, Waikato and Auckland.
