The Air Force's old fleet of Iroquois helicopters has been sold to customers in New Zealand and the United States.

Dakota Air Parts has bought 10 aircraft and spares, while three will go on display at the Army Museum, the Air Force Museum and Ohakea airbase.

Part of another Iroquois has been loaned to the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology.

Defence chiefs say the total sale was between $3 and $5 million.
