Jury retires to consider verdict in pastor case

7:34 am on 24 August 2015

The jury has retired to deliberate on its verdict at the trial of a former Hutt Valley pastor accused of molesting two young girls.

Jone Conikeli, 42, is before the Wellington District Court on seven charges, including assault with intent to commit sexual violation and indecent assault.

The Crown said the pastor exploited opportunities that arose to attack two young girls.

Defence lawyer Chris Nicholls said his client maintained none of the offending occurred, and the girls colluded when they were away together in the school holidays to make up a story about him.

Judge Bill Hastings summed up the case for the jury this morning.
