Black Caps openers Tom Latham and Devon Conway have each scored centuries in both innings, as New Zealand set West Indies a target of 462 runs for victory in their third test at Mt Maunganui.
The home side quickly dismissed their rivals on the fourth morning of the contest, still 155 runs ahead, and began adding to their lead.
After his double-century in the first innings, Conway played the early aggressor, reaching his ton in 136 balls, but lasted only three more, before he was caught.
Latham achieved triple figures in 127 balls, but also departed soon after, before Kane Williamson (40no) and Rachin Ravindra (46no) compiled 72 runs off 37 balls.
At 306/2, Latham declared, leaving the Windies with a day and an hour to score a world-record run chase for victory.
Before stumps, West Indies openers John Campbell (2no) and Brandon King (37no) erased 43 runs from that target.
New Zealand currently lead the series 1-0, after victory at Wellington, with the first test at Christchurch finishing as a draw.
