Awaye! Is broadcast on Australia’s ABC Radio National and is the country’s only dedicated indigenous programme about the arts. To mark twenty one years on the airwaves, a guest lecture series was broadcast. In Te Ahi Kaa this week we join the ABC in celebrating this landmark by replaying a few of these interviews.
This week, Hip Hop artist, DJ and producer Jimblah became interested in Hip Hop when he was 15 years old. Jimblah is a signed artist on Australia’s independent label Elefant Traks, and is set to release his album Phoenix in October. Jimblah talks music, Hip Hop and Spoken word poetry.
Emerging playwright Nakkiah Lui presents her guest lecture ‘Stories that offend your mother” interspersed with readings from her play This Heaven. Nakkiah talks about her role as a writer from the challenging aspects of production to the racism she experiences in the theatre community.
