Awaye! Is broadcast on Australia’s (ABC) Radio National and is the country’s only dedicated indigenous programme about the arts, ranging from music and politics to literature and theatre.
Producer and presenter Daniel Browning hosts Awaye! and to mark their 21st birthday on the airwaves during August, a guest lecture series was broadcast. In Te Ahi Kaa this week we join the ABC in celebrating this landmark by replaying some of their special birthday programmes.
Artist Richard Bell talks about the perception of aboriginal art, while performer and artistic director Lydia Miller provides an historical account of the injustices forced upon the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their political and cultural impacts felt today.
