In 1993, retired and living in Palmerston North he talked to Ian Johnston about his time in Singapore with the air force and deciding to come to New Zealand. Vic’s wife, Audrey, was a very popular broadcaster in Palmerston North. Part Two

To mark the anniversary of the battle of Cassino 70 years ago we listen to an extract from a Spectrum documentary of 1994 which joined veterans returning to the battlefield. The monastery bastion of Montecassino was the key to the German line and the town of Cassino and the surrounding region were the scene of some of the most bitter fighting New Zealanders experienced in the Second World War. (Another group of veterans is at Cassino for the 70th anniversary).
