Uganda's Daily Monitor journalist Tabu Butagira reports from the Republic of Uganda, pop. 35,873,253 (est. 2012). The recent sacking of Prime Minister John Patrick Amama Mbabazi by President Yoweri Museveni amid allegations the prime minister (also former security minister) schemed to stand against Museveni for president in 2016 when Uganda is expected to go to the polls; and the Constitutional Court has nullified on technicality the Anti-homosexuality law which had riled western governments and triggered backlash, including aid and developments assistance cuts.
