VIDEO PREMIERE: Katie Thompson ‘It Ain’t Easy’

From RNZ Music, 10:00 am on 17 August 2020

RNZ Music is excited to be the first to share the new video from West Coast country musician Katie Thompson. ‘It Ain’t Easy’ is the closing track on Thompson’s album Bittersweet, which came out in September last year.

Katie Thompson produced and recorded her latest record Bittersweet alongside Ben Edwards at his renowned studio Sitting Room studio in Lyttelton.

Bittersweet is Katie’s third studio album and first release since taking time off to have her first child.

“My passion for music has never gone away and neither did the self-doubt … I’m sure for most women who take a break (if you can call raising children a break), it can be extremely difficult to re-enter with the same level of confidence you once held,” Katie says.

“I wanted the music video for this song to reflect real life. The reality of becoming a mother is that your wants and needs no longer come first, so when you do decide to push forward and leave the comfort of home with something that is all about you, it can feel overwhelming and daunting.

“I once read a quote that said, ‘To get what you want it is simple, but it isn’t easy,’ and it sparked this entire song.”

A fiercely proud West Coaster, Katie Thompson released her first album Tall Poppy in 2009. Since then she’s released a second record, 2011’s Impossible, shared the stage with pop royalty as opening act for Sir Elton John, and been nominated for Best Country Music Artist and Best Country Music Song at the NZ Music Awards.

The video for ‘It Ain’t Easy’ was filmed in one take by director Tim McInnes who’s worked with the likes of Tami Neilson and Nadia Reid.
