From RNZ Music, 10:00 am on 29 April 2020

RNZ Music is proud to present the new single and video from young Lyttelton songwriter Candice Milner. ‘Girls In Town’ is the first single from her new album due out later this year.

Candice Milner released her debut album Evergreen back in 2016, at just 18 years of age. It won her a spot as a finalist for 'Best Folk Artist’ at the 2018 NZ Music Awards.

Since her debut album, Candice has taken her guitar, beautiful melodies and raw lyrics all over the world, sharing her unique Gothic folk sound

‘Girls in Town’ is the first single from her upcoming album. This song showcases the newer, and heavier sound Milner is transitioning to.

As with her debut, this latest track was brought to life at Ben Edwards’ famed Sitting Room Studios in Lyttelton . It was produced by Ben, Candice and fellow musician and engineer, Ryan Fisherman.

The video for ‘Girls In Town’ was filmed and directed by Rosa McGunnigle, and stars Milly Whyte.

“Frequently evoking the thread of spiritual and romantic Anglofolk, Milner's spare acoustic melodies are enhanced by striking arrangements for strings and a “choir” of backing vocalists with her confident and clear voice at the centre of the frame.” – Elsewhere.co.nz

‘Girls in Town’

The sun it sets again,

My fickle ways to blame,

The trees look like the girls in town.

Why lose your leaves in winter while the frost is setting down?

I’ve wander summer moontides,

Shuffled leaves under fall skies,

Together we’ve been the whole damn time,

But I think I’m ready to go home.

Well I only go to church when I need faith

How could I let go of all that grace

Said I’d be home soon, that I would hit the breaks

You don’t deserve a part time lover

Isn’t it lovely how time goes by,

Only to find our plants have died,

It’s only November, I’m already tender.

I only go to church when I need faith

How could I let go of all that grace

Said I’d be home soon, that I would hit the breaks

You don’t deserve a part time lover
