VIDEO PREMIERE: Seth Haapu and Stan Walker ‘Cool Down’

From RNZ Music, 10:00 am on 22 October 2019

This is your first look at the new video from award-winning singer-songwriter and producer Seth Haapu. ‘Cool Down’ is a collaboration with Stan Walker and sends a powerful message about climate change and its effects on the Pacific Islands.

‘Cool Down’ was shot in Rarotonga and directed by award-winning filmmaker Shae Sterling.

The song and video draw inspiration from Seth’s Polynesian heritage: “Through our Pacific origins, we are custodians of the environment. In the video, we each express this role as an image of the land and sea.”

Self-produced by Seth, ‘Cool Down’ features a number of instruments, which are unique to the Pacific, including Pahu (made of native wood and shark skin) which gives a low pulse like a heartbeat; Pate and Rākau, which offer higher tones and can be heard as textured drum lines and the Hue Puruwai, which forms a shaker pattern that sounds like flowing water.
