Filmmakers Jeff Howlett and Mark Covino on the making of the documentary A Band Called Death, about the early 70s Detroit band the New York Times has dubbed “punk before punk was punk”.

Adventures In Musicland: The Otara Music Arts Centre
If South Auckland’s vibrant music community has an equivalent to Hitsville USA – the famous headquarters of Motown Records - it would be the Otara Music Arts Centre. The OMAC studio has put Pacifican pioneers like Tigilau Ness, Ermehn, Nat Rose and the roster of the late Phil Fuemana’s Urban Pacifica label onto tape.
OMAC celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Sam Wicks heads along to the celebrations to learn the history of this hub of southside sounds.

Malawi Mouse Boys
An eight-piece group who earned a living selling cooked mice-on-a-stick on the roadside near their village in Malawi. This week they performed outside their country, and on a stage, for the first time, at WOMAD UK. Mark Coles is there.
