10:20 Smokefree proposals could be game changer - health researcher

Marketing experts say today's Smokefree proposals could be a game changer for helping people wean themselves off their addictions to tobacco. The restrictions include reducing nicotine, restricting where cigarettes can be sold, lifting the age to prevent young people buying cigarettes, and creating a licensing regime. Otago University's professor of public health Janet Hoek talks to Susana Lei'ataua about the proposals.

10:30 The double burden of being a Maori scientist

New research has found that cultural identity can be a disadvantage for Maori scientists because they're expected to take on the burden of helping their colleagues understand te ao Maori. And that's leading to high levels of burnout. One of the researchers leading this study is Professor Jarrod Haar,  (Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Mahuta), professor of human resources management at AUT Business School.

10:45 The Rest is History: NZ brass bands

It's time for the Rest is History. This Saturday is the anniversary of the first inter-city brass band competition! In 1880 two and a half thousand people gathered in the Christchurch Drill Hall to watch six bands duke it out. Since then Brass Bands have remained hugely popular. To explain what they're all about, and why they have always drawn huge crowds Karyn is joined by David Bremner. As well as being the Principal Trombone in the New Zealand Symphony orchestra David is the Musical Director of the National Brass Band of New Zealand!
