10:20 Anger from farmers at live cattle export ban

The Government has announced all live exports by sea will be banned in two years' time. Last year more than 100-thousand breeding cattle were shipped to the main export market, China .. to the value of 260 million dollars.   The news has been welcomed by animal welfare groups, but met with something less than pleasure by farmers and export companies. Central Hawke's Bay sheep and beef farmer, Jeremy Rookes tells Susana Lei'ataua how important the trade is to farmers.

10:30 Kiwi author a contender for the Commonwealth Writer's Prize

Fielding farmer and author, Tim Saunders has reached another very big milestone in his impressive literary career, as the only New Zealand finalist in this year's Commonwealth Writer's Prize. Tim received the letter telling him he has been shortlisted for the award a fortnight ago, but has had to keep it quiet til now.
