Spring downpours, floods drench central North Island

From First Up, 5:47 am on 26 November 2020

Parts of the North Island were left underwater after torrential downpours yesterday, with Taranaki getting a particularly severe drenching. Flooding and slips caused widespread disruption in New Plymouth and elsewhere in the region, while there were reports of a tornado in the Waipa town of Te Awamutu. The basement of the council building was also flooded and so too was the brand new town library. WeatherWatch forecaster Philip Duncan spoke with Nathan Rarere.
