Northland flooding update

From First Up, 5:50 am on 20 July 2020

Northland is in clean-up mode after a one in five hundred weather event flooded houses and businesses and damaged roads. The torrential rain, which began on Friday, has affected water systems, with the Whangarei and Far North Councils asking people to conserve water until the damage can be fixed. While most roads have reopened a huge slip of earth and fallen trees has closed the State Highway 1 through the Mangamuka Gorge. Shortly, we'll be joined by Whangarei's Mayor Sheryl Mai with the latest on the situation there. But first, knowing the flooding would affect animals the founder of HUHA, Carolyn Press-McKenzie got herself from Wellington to the Bay of Islands as quickly as she could.
