Each week Culture 101 puts the spotlight on a different part of Aotearoa. Occasionally we go into the suburbs and this week we're going inner-west in Tamaki Makaurau. The Whau Arts Festival is running now until the 24th of October. The Whau Local Board covers the suburbs of New Lynn, Green Bay, Kelston, Rosebank, Avondale, New Windsor and Blockhouse Bay. Artist, researcher, arts producer and New Lynn resident, Melissa Laing, speaks to Culture 101 about the highlights of the festival which is encouraging the people of the community to think about connecting their surroundings and spaces through an arts lens. Laing has exhibited internationally as an artist and served as the Whau Community Arts Broker from 2014-2021. She joins Culture 101.
