This year's Bruce Mason Playwrighting Award has been awarded to Anders Falstie-Jensen.

One of the country's top awards for playwrighting - it comes with a $10,000 cash prize and recognises the success of a writer and their body of work.

It's hoped it'll encourage their continued exploration of the medium. Anders is originally from Denmark and is the founder of The Rebel Alliance and works as the main producer, writer, and director.

He's known for his adventurous and unique shows, often grounded in social and community themes.

His previous and award-winning plays include Centrepoint, Back to Square One and The Valentina.

In 2015, Centrepoint won the Adam Award for Best New Zealand Play.

Falstie-Jensen has been an artist in residence at the Basement Theatre in Auckland and has also worked with the New Zealand International Film Festival, Massive Theatre Company and Douglas Wright Dance Company.
