Job stability and sustainability within a creative industry can be a constant battle for artists. Screen actors and performers are no different and know this, all too well. Kiwi actor, Bruce Hopkins, has been in the industry for at least four decades appearing in Lord of the Rings, Under the Mountain and Housebound. He understood firsthand insecurity and unpredictability that comes with being an actor and decided to do something about it.
He set up Action Actors, almost 15 years ago, an innovative temp agency providing work specifically for performers during the down times. But now, approaching 70, Bruce is keen to pass the business on in hopes it'll either continue, or considers whether it could be industry-led. Bruce Hopkins speaks to Culture 101.
