2023 Billy T winner Abby Howells is taking her award winning show La Soupco to the Hamilton Arts Festival.
A screenplay brought to life on stage, La Soupco was originally written by Howells when she was 11-years-old. A nautical romance set in the wake of WWII. Howells says very little historical research or verification was undertaken.
And if you’re expecting an explanation for the title, La Soupco Howells has a disclaimer; the name is neither relevant, nor does it make sense.
A comedian and writer, Howells is a founding member of female comedy collective, Discharge, and has written and performed shows with the group across Wellington, Dunedin and Auckland.
Howells has also performed her play Crossbow Cat in Short and Sweet Festivals in Asia, Australia and Aotearoa and toured with Trick of the Light Theatre with their show Beards! Beards! Beards!.
