Fresh off the island and straight into the classroom as ‘Headmistress’, James Mustapic, is putting an educational spin on LGBTQIA+ issues in communities in a new series, Queer Academy.
“Sharpen your pencils and limp your wrists, Queer Academy is upon us.” The series is written and directed by Re:News journalist Liam van Eeden.
Known for his deadpan delivery and self-deprecating humour, Mustapic guides the audiences through various topics including STIs, coming out, fashion and choosing your own family.
The comedian is already looking towards 2024 and a passion project involving searching for a very personal sort of treasure: finding a partner for his 61-year-old Mum, Janet.
Mustapic speaks to Culture 101’s Perlina Lau about playing cupid, his plans for the comedy festival and his shock at surprise success on Celebrity Treasure Island.
