AT THE MOVIES #857    I HEARD IT WAS GREAT

Simon Morris warns against trusting the taste of film reviewers – one person’s triumph is another’s turkey!  He also looks at three films that have divided the pundits – from Marvel Comics, from Dame Jane Campion and from the Doc Edge Festival.

The Power of the Dog is a western shot in Otago, that’s already won its director – Dame Jane Campion -  a Best Director award at the Venice Film Festival.  Stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Kirsten Dunst.

The Garden of Evil goes behind the scenes of the tragic murder of legendary New Zealand yachtsman Sir Peter Blake in 2001.   Was it just a robbery gone wrong, or was it connected to Sir Peter’s environmental work?   Directed by Larry Keating.

And from Marvel, The Eternals are ten semi-divine superheroes, responsible for thousands of years of human progress.  But is time up?   Stars Gemma Chan (Humans), Richard Madden (Game of Thrones),  and Angelina Jolie (Maleficent).  Directed by Oscar-winner Chloe Zhao (Nomadland).
