AT THE MOVIES #771                   YOU’VE GOT TO KNOW SOMEBODY

Simon Morris looks at some films that overcome a lack of budget by calling in favours from the film-makers' friends and family.  These include a high school comedy, a social drama, the unlikely true story of a German  prisoner of war who became a British football legend, and a Kiwi family comedy called Births deaths and marriages.

Booksmart sees actress Olivia Wilde debut as a director.  It’s a new female-skewed take on R-rated high school comedies like Superbad, with guest spots from Lisa Kudrow and Jason Sudeikis.

The Public features a standoff between the police and a group of homeless people staging a sit-in at the public library.  Features Alec Baldwin, Jena Malone (The Hunger Games) and Emilio Estevez, who also wrote, produced and directed it.

And The keeper tells the true story of Bert Trautmann, a German prisoner of war who became one of England’s favourite footballers.
