1:15 Fifty years as a volunteer firefighter

Joe Simmons has spent half a century volunteering with his local fire brigade.

He joined Maraekākaho Brigade in 1968 and is still on the call outs.

He talks to Jesse about the changes he's seen in the past 50 years and what's kept him motivated to keep volunteering.

1:25 New varieties of apricots developed in Central Otago

A new company called NZ Summer Fresh has announced that after decades of development three new cultivars, or varieties, of apricot will be launced into local and international markets.

They say is could provide a big economic boost to Central Otago, where 50,000 trees are currently growing the new varieties.

Fruit grower and NZ Summer Fresh chariman Stephen Darling talks to Jesse about the new variants.

1:35 Young NZ designer showcasing at NY Fashion Week

I.N.A apparel is back on the catwalk at New York Fashion Week.

Founded by Ina Malama the label specialises in masculine pastel coloured pieces.

At this year's event she's showing a collection as part of the Oxford Fashion Studio's 'Emerge' showcase, which gives a platform to a new generation of designers.

Ina joins Jesse from New York.

1:45 Te Papa calling for national treasures to feature in their new TV series

Te Papa is looking for interesting objects for the second season of their TV series, National Treasures.

Last season featured relics from the Dawn Raids and Bob Marley's legendary New Zealand concert, costumes from the iconic TV series Glass, and Peter Snells 1962 Commonwealth Games jacket.

Writing  started as a way to relieve the boredom for actress Sarah Winman. She's best known as an actress for her role  in the British soap opera Holby City. But when the offers stopped coming, she took a writing course and ended up creating best selling novels. Her latest book, Still Life, is a firm favorite with book clubs around the world. It's about a group of East Enders who move to Florence Italy at the end of World War II. It's about joy and art,  unconventional families and acceptance. We'll talk to Sarah Winman as she embarks on a book tour in New Zealand.
